The Nelson Market has been cancelled tomorrow, along with a host of locals sports due to Alert Level 2 restrictions on events.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced this evening that New Zealand will maintain its current lockdown settings for 12 more days.
That would mean the current settings will be in place for 14 days - or one full incubation period.
This means the Nelson Market and Monty's Sunday Market can't go ahead.
However, for those who fear missing out on their weekly fresh produce, some stall holders will be setting up at Kirby Lane.
Steph Drewery of The Sausage Press Deli Company says the usual Wednesday Farmer’s Market stall holders will be at Kirby Lane on Saturday from 8am to 1.30pm.
Measures will be in place to ensure compliance with health recommendations.
Steph says it’s great that the produce stall holders have another venue that they can safely operate from during Level 2, especially as a lot of the produce can’t be saved for future dates.
“A lot of people are a bit worried so they’re not preparing food, but we’re probably really lucky we have another site we can go to safely.”
She says stalls will be able to be spaced out and QR codes will be available for people to scan as part of contact tracing.
Steph says operating at Kirby Lane means that the entry and exit can be controlled to ensure they keep to the 100-person limit.
Sports have also been preparing for further restrictions.
The Tasman Rugby Union has made the call to exclude public from games at the weekend and cancel age-grade rugby.
Nelson Netball cancelled its premier games on Thursday evening and Saturday games have also been called off this weekend.
Division one rugby will be played, however the venues have been changed to ensure crowds stay away.
Stoke will take on Nelson at Sports Park in Motueka while Kahurangi and Waimea's top of the table clash has been moved to Trafalgar Park and will be live-streamed.
Public will not be permitted to attend either game.
Football and Hockey are both set to go ahead.
Hockey games will be staggered to allow players to leave the grounds before the next one.
Nelson Suburbs will travel to Christchurch as planned to take on competition leaders Cashmere Technical tomorrow afternoon, kick off at 2.45pm.
The AA Secondary Schools basketball qualifier between Waimea and nelson Colleges is also going ahead as scheduled but spectators will not be permitted.
