
A pedestrian has died on the Shenandoah Highway after being struck by a vehicle in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A police spokesperson says they were called to the crash shortly before 1.30am.
SH65 is currently closed between SH6 and Springs Junction and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
Waka Kotahi NZTA say a detour via Reefton is expected to add up to two hours to the journey time so travelers should plan accordingly.
An update on the road closure is expected around 2pm.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
