
Nelson awoke to a winter wonderland this morning with snow down to the lowest levels in years.
Snow was visible to low levels on the ranges surrounding Nelson including Barnicoat and Takaka Hill.

Heavy snow has also closed main thoroughfare roads around the region including:
SH 63 Kawatiri to St Arnaud
SH65 between Springs Junction and O’Sullivan’s Bridge (SH6 Junction)
SH7 Hanmer Springs to Springs Junction
SH7 Springs Junction to Reefton
The wild weather has also brought trees down in Marlborough with the Marlborough District Council warning drivers to take care especially in the Marlborough Sounds and Northbank.

In a Facebook post MDC says trees are down on French Pass Rd (between Elaine Bay and the Pass) plus at the Northbank and Onamalutu intersection.
The polar blast made for a perfect start to the school holidays with snow easily accessible on Tuesday.
