
A main stretch of SH6 between Nelson and Murchison will be closed for nearly two weeks, adding more than half an hour to travel time.
Repair to infrastructure is needed following earlier storm damage says Waka Kotahi NZTA.
The full repairs are expected to take six weeks, with the 13 day closure included in the time frame, and will include culvert and guardrail replacements, pavement repairs, water channel clearing as well as sign and marker post cleaning.
The State Highway will be closed in both directions between Kawatiri Junction and Glenhope from 7am Monday October 5 and will reopen at 6pm Saturday October 17.
A detour will be in place via SH63 through Korere, Kikiwa and St Arnaud and is expected to add more than 30 minutes to the journey.
