Chai Pyle has never performed on stage, but the premiere of his one-man show has been labelled “brave and outstanding” by those who attended.
Chai’s play ‘Real’ tells the story of one man’s inner struggle to create a play while wrestling with self-doubt, fear and purpose, which manifest through four different characters, all played by Chai.
“It’s a real rollercoaster, a proper drama it’s got it all; strongly emotional pieces, absolute ridicule and humour and good lessons,” says Chai.
Chai says the different characters take a lot of energy to bring on to stage, which has been a big challenge, but two months of rehearsing has paid off.
One such character is Murmon who is the doubting one who tries every tactic to derail the ‘stupendous idea’ of being on stage.
“He is full of self-doubt and distraction and reasons from the past of why we should not create a play, and he’s got really good reasons.”
Chai says everyone will relate to the themes in the show and at the end of the day he hopes to inspire people to follow their own gut feeling.
‘Real’ will show once at the Suter Theatre this Saturday, 8pm.
