Rabbit Island came alive on Saturday as 92 participants took part in the Family Friendly Trail Races.
The 19 children ran a 3.5km circuit, while the adults had a choice of 7kms or 10kms.
The children peeled off from the Great Taste Trail at Barnicoat Rd, while the 7km runners peeled off at Coopers Rd.
The 10km course continued around the Island’s coastal track turning into Bird Road and returning via Coopers Rd.
Zoe Bonny and Nicholas Newberry were the first girl and boy respectively in the 3.5 km course, Ian Morrison and Amber Bonny, first and second placed runners in the 7.5km course and Eileen Beattie the fastest walker.
Matthew Bowen and Hayden Squance battled it out at the front of the 10km field while Angela Leck convincingly took out the women’s race.
David Martin and Ros Smyth put in a great effort to lead the walkers home.
Next on the racing schedule is ‘Wallace Shield’ cross country races at Rabbit Island, starting this Saturday May 15.
