Nelson is in lockdown from midnight tonight it has been confirmed.
A community case of Covid-19 was confirmed in Auckland this afternoon and it is assumed that it is the highly-contagious Delta variant, although this can’t be confirmed until tomorrow when testing is completed.
Auckland will go into a seven day Level 4 lock down from midnight tonight with the rest of New Zealand, including Nelson, heading into a three day lockdown from midnight.
Level 4 means people are instructed to stay at home in their bubble other than for essential personal movement; safe recreation activity is allowed in a local area; travel is severely limited; all gathering are cancelled and all public venues are closed; businesses are closed expect for essential services like supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics, petrol stations and lifeline utilities; all educational facilities are closed.
Dr Ashley Bloomfield said at a press conference tonight that while a case identified in Auckland it will take a “whole of country” approach to keep it contained.
Prime minister Jacinda Ardern said “we only get one chance” when announcing the lockdown.
