A fire investigator will be on scene today after fire tore through a Richmond home Tuesday afternoon.
Fire and Emergency NZ shift supervisor Andrew Norris says they were called to the Lowry St property just before 5pm Tuesday.
He says there were five fire appliances called to the scene, two from Richmond, two from Stoke and one from Nelson.
On Wednesday morning FENZ shift supervisor Brent Dunn says the home was "extensively damaged" in the blaze.
He says there were people home at the time of the fire but they had evacuated safely.
Brent says the fire investigator will work today to determine the cause of the blaze.
