St John Nelson is struggling to find land to build a new ambulance hub on after a large bequeathment made the new build possible.
St John Nelson bays territory manager, Anne-Maree Harris, says St John has been looking without any success since earlier this year.
She says with land at a premium and in limited supply, finding a suitable location is proving challenging.
“We have been keeping our eyes peeled but with such a hot market – things are getting snapped up very quickly.
“We are keen to put our feelers out and hear from anyone thinking of selling, particularly in the Stoke area, which is the best location to access the main arterial roads, keeping our ambulance officers central to the wider Nelson and surrounding communities.”
She says St John will consider any site but requires it to be at least 3000sqm in size.
It will need to be in a location with the right access and roads to optimise emergency response.
St John recently received a $1.8 million bequest from late Nelson man Leon Page, which the organisation intends to use towards the development of the new ambulance station.
“We’ve been extremely fortunate to receive these funds which we are incredibly grateful for, and we look forward to putting them to good use,” Anne-Maree says.
The proposed ambulance base for Nelson is part of St John’s wider infrastructure programme which includes the replacement of several stations around Aotearoa. Recently St John was gifted land in Oamaru to build its new ambulance base.
“It would be a great Christmas gift to find a suitable site for our new hub in Nelson,” Anne-Maree says.
