The impact of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in the Nelson-Tasman region is starting to be realised as more cases are confirmed and locations of interest added to the Ministry of Health’s website.
On Sunday it was confirmed a Motueka family who had attended a wedding in Auckland, were infected with Omicron and among the first confirmed cases of the variant in the community in the country.
Today another two cases linked to the family have also tested positive with Omicron, taking the total infected in the region to eleven.
Countdown in Motueka was added to the locations of interest and the Ministry of Health says anyone who visited the store last Tuesday between 7pm and 8pm should self-monitor for Covid-19 symptoms for 10 days after being exposed.
Other locations of interest in the region include Nelson Airport, Repco Motueka and New World Motueka.
Long wait for vaccinations:
The news that the variant of Covid-19 has made its way to the region has prompted a rush for vaccinations with many drop-in vaccination centres very busy.
One Nelson father booked a time for his children to be vaccinated only to find that he was stuck in a long queue at the Paru Paru Rd vaccination centre with the booking system thrown out the window.
“I know the health system is under pressure but why don’t they communicate to people that a booking needs to stand in the same queue. It’s hopeless."
