Two people have escaped with minor injuries after the plane they were flying crash-landed into the Waimea estuary this morning.
The light aircraft nose-dived into the estuary, near Bronte, shortly before 10.30 am.
An eyewitness told the Nelson App that the plane landed nose-first before flipping onto its back.
Local boaties went to the rescue along with Fire and Police.
One local boat owner, who attended the scene, said that one person had a minor injury to his leg while the other escaped without injury.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft has sunk and will be recovered.
