A slip has come down across both lanes of Wakefield-Kohatu Highway SH6 closing the road in both directions.
A police spokesperson says traffic management is being put in place following the slip on Wednesday evening.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternative route.
"Remember to slow down and drive to the conditions," says the spokesperson.
