Wild weather has brought down trees and power lines in Richmond, closing the road and cutting power to parts of the region.
Power is out in Cable Bay Rd, Maori Pa Road, Lower Flowers Rd and Hori Bay Rd in north Nelson, and also in parts of Stoke and Richmond.
A person at the scene in Hill St describes a "big tree" down across the north end of the street and power wires on the ground.
"I came up to Summerset rest home on Hill St north. I was there five minutes, went back out and the tree was down, I'm parked up on the side of the road waiting."
They say that police have attended and power crews are currently awaiting contractors to remove the tree, before they can begin work on the power lines.
A police spokesperson says they were notified at around 8:45am of the tree down, blocking the road on Hill St North, near Fullford Drive.
Network Tasman reports that power is out to residents in Mako St and Marion Grove in Richmond.
Power is also out in Riwaka, Kaiteriteri and Mārahau with network staff currently investigating the outage. Residents in areas of Stoke are also reporting power outages in the Suffolk Rd / Saxton area.
Tasman District Council communications manager Chris Choat says Riwaka, Motueka and Golden Bay look to be getting the worst of the weather at the moment.
He says that the fallen tree on Hill St is within the Nelson boundary, so Nelson City Council will be managing the removal.
A spokesperson for Nelson Airport says there has been a "fair bit" of disruptions to both arriving and departing flights today.
"I’m also aware of one flight from Wellington that was unable to land on arrival at Nelson and had to turn back."

After a wet and windy night in Nelson, almost the entire country has severe weather warnings in place as a deep low and associated fronts, bare down on New Zealand.
The Top of the South has severe rain and wind warnings in place for much of Tuesday with heavy snowfall expected through SH7 Lewis Pass.
Tasman can expect 110-150mm of rain about and west of Motueka, and between 80 to 100mm elsewhere in the district with peak rates of 10 to 20mm per hour up to 9pm Tuesday.
Marlborough can also expect heavy rain with between 110 and 160mm anticipated. Rain is expected to ease from 3pm Tuesday.
Tasman is also under an Orange level Strong Wind Warning for the area west of Motueka, which includes Golden Bay until 2pm.
East to southeast winds are forecast to rise to severe gale gusting 120 to 130 kmh in exposed places.
The strongest winds are expected during Tuesday morning.
Metservice expect the severe weather to move away to the east on Wednesday.
