Nelsonian Campbell Rollo has announced he will stand for Nelson City Council under the Stoke Tāhunanui ward after just missing out on a seat at the table in 2019.
Campbell, a third-generation Nelsonian, received 5884 votes in the 2019, missing out on a seat by 1383 votes.
He says he will bring a “fresh community approach” to the ward of Stoke-Tāhunanui.
"Our community is my first and only priority, should I be elected, and I'm committed to working with all of Council to make Stoke & Tāhunanui an awesome community for all generations.”\
He says council has failed to deliver and cited the installation of clearways on Tāhunanui Drive in how council has failed to create a positive relationship in the Stoke-Tāhunanui community.
"Our council needs a local who will be here with them, delivering good infrastructure, keeping our sports grounds operational, investing and enhancing this sector supporting our local teams,” he says.
Campbell currently sits on the board of Hockey Nelson, is a member of Rotary, Big Brothers Big Sisters Nelson Tasman and long-time supporter and player in his local Tahuna FC and Stoke Hockey sides.
He says he is also running on a personal platform of promoting accessibility to all Nelsonians after being involved in bringing an accessible carousel at the Lions Playground in Tāhunanui.
"I’m committed to making Nelson a truly accessible city for all, and as a councillor I'll fight for their needs too, which are often overlooked and thrown into the too hard basket.”
