Coastal View Lifestyle Village, tucked away high on the stunning Tahunanui Hills, is architecturally designed and commands expansive views over the Tasman Bay and beyond. Invoking a sense of space, security and serenity, the village is surrounded by generous landscaping and beautiful vistas at every turn. Encouraging a lifestyle like no other, the development currently consists of premium stand-alone homes, and a state-of-the-art Care Centre, but still holds a few treasures yet to be unveiled.
Coastal View saw its first residents move into their gorgeous homes during March of last year, and village manager, Pen Walkinshaw, says the luxurious development is completely unique in its design. “We have been very responsive to market preferences and listened to what people are wanting. With the addition of much larger homes and vast landscaping, Coastal View has a completely different feel to other retirement villages. We currently have 24 residents enjoying their retirement here and soaking up the one-of-a-kind lifestyle Coastal View has to offer.”

They offer a wide range of house design options as well as a stand-alone Care Centre, and a soon-to-be completed specialised Dementia centre. There is also a strong drive forward for the construction of the Yacht Club. The Club will boast luxurious central spaces such as a bakery, hairdresser, restaurant, bar, movie theatre, a medical centre and library, gymnasium and a heated indoor pool and spas facilities. It will contain a wellness centre, incorporating medical and physiotherapy rooms. Serviced apartments, up to 110m2, will flank either side of the Yacht Club offering intermediate health care options. “It is very exciting to see this come together,” says Pen. “It will be the heart of the village.”
Salesperson, Breffni O'Rourke, says it has been wonderful to witness the relationships residents have already formed with each other. “It is one of the nicest things, it is magic to watch and one of the highlights of my role.”
It is those moments of kindness between residents that also touch Pen the most. “The residents in the community are very connected to each other. The people that have come here are diverse in background, community-minded and bring a wealth of life experience.”

Breffni helps people to find their ‘best home’ within the Coastal View community. She says seeing their first reaction to the village is a total joy to see. “Watching their faces when they pop up here for the first time is always a highlight. People always say it is completely different, in a wonderful way, to what they expected to find. I think people deserve somewhere beautiful to live when they retire, and Coastal View provides that.”
While Breffni assists with the process of entering the village, Pen then helps to guide residents with their Coastal View journey and life within the village.
The team are committed to creating a warm and pleasant setting for all who reside at Coastal View says Pen. “Our focus is on activities, connectedness, and a little bit of magic. I think this is mirrored in our residents, who look for the fun in life and that matches nicely with what we envisioned.” From cabarets to guest speakers, the Travel Club and theatre trips, there is always something to choose from. “We run a weekly TRILife Wellness Program which focuses on nutrition, exercise and state of mind, as well as a walking group. Scarlett the Coffee Cart is a permanent fixture and residents can enjoy a barista-made coffee in a relaxing outdoor setting. The fortnightly ‘Tipple Time’ is always a favourite event as well as the monthly Brunch Club.” Pen says planning for the first Travel Club is already underway and will be packed with premium activities. “These can be extended trips anywhere from two nights to a week. We will start with exciting local locations and grow it from there, but the idea is that all residents need to do is jump into the provided transport and enjoy, we will take care of everything.”

Keeping residents and staff connected is the pioneering technology provided by Coastal View, Spritely Limited. Spritely is a single-touch communication system which allows residents to keep in regular contact with friends, family, staff and other residents. It enables people to keep up-to-date with the latest community news and important announcements, make bookings for activities, check the weather and play games. The range of services at Coastal View is second to none, with intermediate care options such as The Butler package and Spritely remote healthcare monitors. “Spritely was fantastic during Covid. We could check in and have video chats with residents, and they could keep in contact with their loved ones at the touch of a button.”
Right across New Zealand there are often long waiting lists for people to enter their village of choice. It is important to start planning where you want to be in your retirement years, now, so you are guaranteed to be able to enjoy the kind of lifestyle Coastal View can offer you.
