The unbeaten Central Stags have moved into a dominant position heading into today's 'moving day’ in New Zealand’s first-class championship, the Plunket Shield.
Holding a 199-run overall lead over Northern Districts with nine wickets still in hand, Stags first dop Brad Schmulian will resume on 53 not out, having scored a half century in each innings of the match, while exciting young Stags debutant Curtis Heaphy is 25 not out in their second innings.
ND was dismissed yesterday still 112 runs in arrears in the first innings. Leading Stags allrounder Doug Bracewell had sat on outstanding interim figures of 4-14 after a big triple strike straight after lunch, but was denied a second first-class bag of the season when his team-mates Ray Toole and Ajaz Patel wrapped up the ND innings, Bracewell finishing with 4-30 (13 overs).
Stags wicketkeeper Dane Cleaver achieved his 200th first-class dismissal while first drop Bharat Popli top-scored for ND with a fighting 75, the last man to fall.
