Just 24 hours after being introduced, water restrictions in Tasman have eased.
Tasman District Council say following rain over the weekend and more forecast this week, water supplies and their extensions in Richmond, Brightwater, Hope, Wakefield, Redwood Valley and Māpua/Ruby Bay are able to return to Phase A restrictions effective immediately.
This also applies to Nelson residents living on Champion Road, the Wakatu Industrial Estate and parts of Saxton Road West, where water is supplied from the Richmond Water Supply Scheme.
TDC community infrastructure group manager, Richard Kirby, says sufficient levels of recent and expected rainfall had eased concerns around excess water takes in the affected areas.
“We had been abstracting slightly more than our consent daily limits for the week up until Monday January 30. However, the recent rainfall should have lowered water consumption."
Under Phase A restrictions, watering of grass or lawns is not permitted. However, watering decorative and productive gardens is permitted using a handheld hose with trigger nozzle or time limited water system.
For pool owners, filling a pool is prohibited at this time, however topping up a pool is still permitted.
TDC announced on Friday that Phase B restrictions would come into place from Monday, 30 January.
Under Phase B restrictions, watering of lawns and filling or topping up pools, spas and water features is not allowed. However, users may wash cars, windows and outdoor areas with a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle or bucket.
Phase A restrictions will be reviewed again next week.
