The region may experience heavy rain overnight on Thursday according to Metservice, with warnings and watches in place.
The weather service has issued warnings and watches for the ranges around Nelson and Tasman from 9pm Thursday.
An Orange Heavy Rain Warning is in place for the ranges of Tasman west of Motueka with 70 to 110 mm of rain expected to fall between 9pm Thursday and 6am Friday. Peak rates of 10 to 20 mm per hour are expected.
A Heavy Rain Watch is also in place for the Richmond and Bryant Ranges including Rai Valley and the Marlborough Sounds between 10pm Thursday and 7am Friday.
Strong wind is expected for Marlborough with a warning in place for the 10 hours from 11pm Thursday.
Severe gale northerlies are expected in exposed places, at time gusting up to 120 kmh.
Winds are expected to ease by 6am Friday in Marlborough.
