A thrashing and the narrowest of victories for the region's two top men's club football teams has set up a massive fixture this coming weekend.
Blenheim's Rangers dealt to Tahuna FC 5-0 at A&P Park in Blenheim while FC Nelson came away with a 1-0 win over Richmond Athletic at Jubilee Park. This leaves both Rangers and FC Nelson on 27 competition points and they due to face each other this coming Saturday in Blenheim.
While the match could be seen as do-or-die for both sides, FC Nelson do have a game in hand, meaning a win over Rangers would give them a considerable upper-hand in their quest for this year's Nelson Bays Football men's division one title.
The teams have already played each other twice this season, FC Nelson winning the first game 2-1 but losing the second 5-2, the latter a Chatham Cup fixture.
Meanwhile, the bottom two teams in the competition had a close contest with Nelson Suburbs Seals scraping in a 3-2 win against FC Nelson Locomotive at Saxton Field.
At the same ground, the third place Nelson Suburbs Reserves pulled off a 5-3 win against fourth place Motueka.

Third Place Nelson Suburbs Reserves scored a 3-1 win against eighth placed Tahuna Breakers on their home turf.
Second place FC Nelson Diamonds shone on the field with a 7-4 win against the sixth place Nelson Suburbs Swans at Saxton Fields.
Fourth place Golden Bay Shield Maidens outclassed seventh place FC Nelson Wahine with a 3-1 win at Botanic Fields.
