High winds have cancelled flights and brought trees down across the Top of the South.
State Highway 6 was earlier blocked by a treefall at Pelorus. Waka Kotahi were warning drivers to expect delays when travelling through the area, but the road has now been cleared.
A spokesperson says contractors are onsite and working to clear the road.
Metservice has a strong wind watch in place for Marlborough, Nelson/Tasman, Buller, and Westland north of Hokitika. The watches remain in effect until the early hours of Saturday morning.
An Air New Zealand spokesperson says the weather has resulted in 11 flight cancellations both in ans out of the region.
Fallen trees have been reported on SH6 on the Whangamoa Hill and at Pelorus.
The highway is open, and contractors are clearing debris from affected areas. However, while the strong winds persist, the risk of further treefalls remains.
Those booked to travel on an Air New Zealand service on Friday are able to change their flight free of charge or put their booking into credit if they no longer wish to travel. This can be done via the manage booking function on their Air NZ app or via the website.
