Emergency services were called to Nelson Airport to reports of an engine fire on an Originair flight from Nelson to Palmerston North on Friday.
Fire and Emergency vehicles rushed to the airport at around 1.20pm after a plane was understood to have called in a fire indicator in their right-hand engine.
A spokesperson for Fire and Emergency says the plane landed safely and FENZ stood-down within about five minutes.
"The report was a fire indicator in the right engine, but there didn’t appear to be a fire," the spokesperson says.
The plane returned to Nelson, where it landed safely and passengers disembarked.
The airport Rescue Fire Service met the aircraft on landing, and inspected the aircraft to ensure there was no risk of fire. Police and FENZ also attended to support the airport response.
A spokesperson for Nelson Airport says several departing flights were slightly delayed as a result of the incident but have now departed.
Originair is working to put on an alternative service to Palmerston North today to ensure passengers reach their destination.
