Sleigh bells will ring in the Nelson CBD this afternoon at 1pm for the NBS Nelson Santa Parade.
More than 50 colorful floats will gather at the Montogomery Square Carpark before they spread Christmas cheer down Trafalgar St via Hardy St.
The floats will then turn left onto Grove St before ending their journey at the Hathaway Car Park via Hathaway Terrace.
People wishing to participate in the pre-parade Christmas competition to win a spot in the parade must meet at the Trafalgar St Farmers at 12:30pm.
Nelson City Council (NCC) says some carparks and streets will be closed to ordinary traffic today including Montgomery Square carpark and its entrances between 5am and 2pm.
Church and Park streets and Hardy St between Rutherford and Morrison St will also be closed between 8:30am and 4pm.
Trafalgar St between Hardy and Grove streets and Hathaway Terrace including Trafalgar Park Lane, Trafalgar Carpark, Bridge St, Wakatu Lane, New St and Halifax St will be closed between 10:30am and 4pm.
Bridge and Halifax streets at its Trafalgar St intersections will also be closed between 12pm and 3pm.
NCC says vehicle access for businesses and couriers will be available where possible, but delays are likely.
