The Top of the South can expect a rainy and windy Friday and Saturday.
MetService has issued warnings and watches for the region on Friday for both wind and rain.
On orange Strong Wind Warning is in place for the Marlborough Sounds until 7pm Friday with severe northwest gales gusting 120km in exposed places. Gusts could damage powerlines, trees and unsecured structures.
For Tasman west of Tākaka, including Nelson Lakes National Park, a Heavy Rain Watch is in place through to 7pm Friday.
MetService also issued a Strong Wind Watch for both Tasman west of Nelson and the region of Marlborough with Northwest winds possibly approaching severe gale in exposed places.
“Saturday will be wet and windy across the country, but conditions should ease in the evening,” MetService meteorologist Alain Baillie says.
By Sunday the front will have cleared to the east and a large area of high pressure begins to dominate our weather into next week.
Hot conditions return to the eastern South Island on Monday, with Blenheim and expected to reach 32°C.
