A crash has closed the Tākaka Hill Highway and left two people with serious injuries.
A police spokesperson says the two-vehicle crash near Bates and Canaan Roads was reported shortly after 12pm on Wednesday.
"It appears one person is in a critical condition and one person is in a serious condition."
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
The road is closed and will remain so for the next few hours while the road is cleared, and a scene examination is conducted.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and delay travel.
