The Keir Wilkinson Memorial Golf Tournament will lay tribute to a ‘good mate’ and raise much-needed funds for Nelson Tasman Hospice on Friday.
Pre-bidding is now open on a huge range of unique items, some of them one-of-a-kind, that will be auctioned at the end-of-play function at the Nelson Golf Club.
Running for the third time, the tournament on Friday, 13 September, has once again sold out, with all funds raised going to Nelson Tasman Hospice.
Auction items include a framed Black Caps playing shirt signed by this year's squad and an All Blacks jersey donated by Ethan Blackadder, signed by the 2024 squad.
Organiser Glyn Delany says, while they don't have a fundraising goal in mind, they would like to raise as much as they can, having hit more than $56k in 2023, and following on from the inaugural event in 2022 that raised $48k.
"As expected, it’s a fiercely competitive tournament, but driven with a real collective effort in making a difference in our community," says Nelson Tasman Hospice chief operating officer, Donna Ching-Tregidga.
She says, having a $3.5 million shortfall, events like this is are important for hospice, but represent so much more.
"This is such an important community piece. It's got Keir's family, it's got people like Glyn, who were a friend and work colleague of Keir's... so for us, it's about bringing community together, and that's where we, as community, are much stronger together, so I think that's what's really special about this event."
"We will be remembering a good mate and raising money for hospice," Glyn adds.
