Ed Shuttleworth’s epic 210km run to raise money for Nelson Tasman Hospice probably isn’t something he’d like to do again any time soon – but he will have to watch it all again, and you can join him.
Ed is one of the dancers in this year’s Dancing for a Cause, a fundraiser for the Nelson Tasman Hospice. Ed will join nine other Nelsonians who will pair up with expert dancers and perform in front of a packed Trafalgar Centre in May.
As part of his fundraising efforts, Ed ran 210km from Fairwell Spit to the hospice in Stoke, a gruelling run that took him a little over 40 hours.
Following him along the way was local filmmaker Todd Starr and he will be premiering the documentary, Reasons to Run, at the Suter Theatre on Tuesday next week (March 11).
So far, more than 100 of the 150 tickets have been sold, but organisers are hoping for a sellout and are urging Nelsonians to buy a ticket and come to watch Ed’s incredible journey.
The night will be hosted by Ed and Todd. Alongside the beautiful documentary, they will share their unique perspectives on the run, the film and their commitment to Hospice.
To give you some idea of how Ed was feeling immediately after the run, here's what he told Nelson App sport reporter Stephen Stuart moments after finishing.
“The final 50 kilometres was very hard. What I got wrong was trying to go at the same pace as I would for 160kms. I didn’t respect the amount of walking I should have done early on, and my legs got burnt out. Looking back, I was a bit over aggressive,” Ed acknowledged.
“I have no skin left on the bottom of [my feet]. They are blistered to pieces and wrecked. I know I suffered but it was incredible. I wasn’t running for me. It was the most special and spiritual two days of my life."
