The first stage of Richmond Mall’s ‘Reimagined’ project is gaining momentum, with work beginning to remove the large blue external wall over the coming weeks.
Stage one of the development has seen significant internal deconstruction and reconstruction over the past six months, says Tinline Property chief executive Jamie Gaskell. But works will become more visible to the public over the coming weeks as the blue external wall comes down.
“As part of this stage of the project, as well as working on one of the north walls, we’re giving the mall an aesthetic refresh, with new external and internal colour schemes, improved lighting, and refreshed skylights, in line with what is planned for future stages,” he says.
“In a couple of months when people come to visit or shop, they will also get to enjoy new seating areas and a lot more greenery. It will be a much more inviting space.”
Over the past few months, some food businesses in the mall have moved or closed, but Jamie says there are some exciting announcements on the horizon.
"These changes were anticipated as part of the mall’s ongoing development plan. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we undertake the development.
“We are very pleased with progress to date, and we are really looking forward to letting everyone know the new tenancy lineup, which will be a combination of existing tenants, along with some new names to the region.”
Richmond Mall centre manager, Belinda de Clercq, says so far during stage one there has been minimal disruption to customers. The mall still remains fully accessible, but there may be occasional noise disruptions during this next stage of construction.
“Our construction team is working hard to ensure as little disruption as possible, with most of the current improvements taking place outside of trading hours,” she says. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during the project.”
Stage two of Richmond Mall Reimagined is scheduled to commence later this year.
