The Motueka Music Group is back with the first concert of what promises to be another stellar year of outstanding performances in 2025.
This is their 50th year as a community group, and that is testament to the health of the continued support for their concerts.
Their first concert is a Soirée for violin, horn, and piano performed by an accomplished trio of musicians.
The three artists have performed chamber music concerts both as soloists, and with orchestras and groups across their successful careers, both nationally and internationally.
The trio contains two of the founding members of the NZTrio - Sarah Watkins, piano, and Justine Cormack, violin.
Sarah’s passion for accompanying and chamber music have led to an impressive career as a collaborative artist.
A highly sought-after freelance violinist, Justine collaborates broadly as a soloist, chamber musician and guest concertmaster.
The third member is Emma Eden who plays the tenor horn and is currently the principal horn for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
Across their careers all three have been collaborative musicians and have been committed and passionate about promoting New Zealand music.
On Saturday, 29 March, at the Motueka Chanel Arts Centre, they present a chamber music concert with a broad selection in the first half from Debussy’s Clair de Lune to NZ composer Victoria Kelly’s piece for piano called the Goodnight Kiwi - gentle and exquisite.
The pieces are a mix of the instruments, sometimes just piano, piano and violin and an Elizabeth Raum piece for horn and piano.
The second half brings all three instruments together for Brahm’s Trio for violin, horn and piano, op. 40 Andante; Scherzo (Allegro); Adagio mesto; Allegro con brio – a chance to sit still a while and listen to the beauty of Brahms.
Tickets to the concert ($25 adults, $5 schoolchildren) can be purchased at Motueka Floral Studio (cash only) or at the door on the night of the concert (cash or EFTPOS).
