A wall of red knitted poppies greets locals heading into the Māpua Community Library and there’s the opportunity to sit down and knit your own poppy in time for Anzac Day.
Barbara Halse is part of the Māpua Craft Group which is keen to show others how to knit a poppy to wear on Anzac Day or contribute to an Anzac wreath at the memorial service this year.
Yarn in shades of red, with needles and patterns have been set up in the library to create your own knitted poppy, with guidance from Barbara or other members if needed.
The wall hanging was prompted by the hundredth anniversary of Gallipoli, with members of the community getting their needles out to knit poppies which were then sown onto old military blankets.
