Whether it’s a set of seaside scenes, a mountain montage or a mini-feature about a local gem, Whenua Iti Outdoors is encouraging New Zealand’s youth to grab a video camera and get outside.
The organisation’s inaugural Outdoor Film Festival is open for people aged 24 and under, and aims to encourage young New Zealanders to “explore the outdoors and share their adventures”, with short films from two to 10 minutes in length.
The categories include “youth filmmaker”, in which the young person takes complete control of the planning, filming and editing, or three age-group “journey” sections, with the scope that “it’s fine to get help editing to bring your story to life”.
The films don’t need to be fancy – phone filming is fine - and there are more than $4000 worth of prizes to be won.
Whenua Iti Outdoors chief executive officer Mark Bruce-Miller says that they are thrilled to get the initiative underway.
“It’s an amazing opportunity for young people to showcase their creativity and love for the outdoors,” he says.
“We can’t wait to see the incredible stories they’ll share.”
