People enjoying the new boardwalk along the Kaiteriteri estuary and Martin Farm Road have noticed two sleek signs, concreted into the ground and overlooking the estuary vista.
However, the signs are completely blank and have been ever since they were installed more than a year ago.
After communication back and forward with the Tasman District Council (and a detour via the Kaiteriteri Recreation Board), the Guardian can report that the signs are going to be used as historic information panels.
A council representative says that the decision about the sign’s content sits with their iwi liaison group, requiring agreement from local iwi before the boards are installed.
The official word is that “work is continuing to collate the narrative and there’s no timeframe as yet for completion”.
