Elliot and Cole Slotemaker ascended the Sky Tower’s 51 flights of stairs and into the Brightwater brigade’s history books.
The brothers burned through the pain on Saturday in Auckland, completing the Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge in under 18 minutes.
Their finish etched Brightwater’s place in the annual fundraiser for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer (LBC) NZ.
Elliot says the atmosphere was warm and the adrenaline rush while climbing in full firefighting kit rucking a 25kg carbon fibre cylinder was “brilliant”.
Both men say it was a “walk in the park” after the initial batch of stairs. Donations are still active until the end of June, and the Slotemaker’s have raised more than $5500 through their challenge fundraiser for LBC patients.
“We didn’t expect for our first year to raise that much money and for the Brightwater community to come on board and support us and put money in our donation boxes, that’s incredible,” Elliot says.
