According to passers-by, the house, located at 4 Wilkinson St, had no formal occupants for at least a decade, aside from squatters and an informal arrangement in a tin shed out the back.
The 1960s house had become increasingly overgrown, before two separate fires rendered it completely uninhabitable last year. Builder and realtor Ruben Fry says the owners were not in a position to demolish the house, and so they sold the property to him.
Ruben contracted Dowie Construction to undertake the demolition work last week. He says he envisages the 964 m2 property will be utilised by someone for a future commercial development, although locals shouldn’t expect anything to pop up in the vacant space for a couple of years yet.
Ruben also owns the neighbouring property at 2 Wilkinson Street, which, like number 4, backs onto Decks Reserve. He says his team is in the final stages of a refit to turn number 2 into a satellite clinic for Greenwood Health.
