Sindy Nutting’s style is a free-spirited mash-up of boho, rock ‘n’ roll, and vintage flair. With a love for textures, patterns, and one-off second-hand finds, she’s all about dressing with personality and purpose.
What are you wearing today?
I'm wearing a Tigerlily dress, a vest from Spell and the Gypsy, suede boots (not sure of the label), and all my jewellery is Native American–style in sterling silver and stones. I've tied it together with a vintage pure silk headscarf made in New Zealand. Every piece was found secondhand in op shops or on Marketplace.
What is your style?
My style is a mix of boho, gypsy, and rock ‘n’ roll, with a splash of the ‘80s thrown in. I love playing around with different eras and styles to make them my own. I’m drawn to textures – leather, lace, linen, cotton – and bold, beautiful patterns.
What is most of your wardrobe made up of?
It’s a real mix! I have loads of second-hand and vintage pieces that I love to mismatch with newer items. I’m also big on accessories – boots, hats, jewellery, belts, scarves – you name it, I probably have it.
What are you loving at the moment?
I’m loving that anything goes. There’s so much style out there now, and you can just pick and choose to create something uniquely you. I always look forward to this time of year too – it’s finally coat and boot season! I get to pull out my big vintage jackets and leather boots.
Where do you buy most of your clothes?
About 95% of my wardrobe is from op shops, Marketplace, or Trade Me. I love rummaging and not knowing what treasure I’ll find next. It’s a great way to support charities, reduce waste, and save money. It’s a win–win for everyone.
What is your approach to shopping?
I don’t really have a set approach – shopping second-hand is all about the thrill of the hunt! You never know what you’ll come across, so I just go with the flow. I especially love finding one-off vintage pieces. I’ve got quite the collection now!
What has been your worst clothing disaster?
That would be at a good friend’s wedding. I was wearing second-hand heels and they broke! Luckily, my dad had some tape and patched them up for me. Who knows – maybe I started a new trend? Haha.
What wardrobe item should everyone invest in?
A good pair of jeans! They’re so versatile and can be dressed up or down. I like finding ones that are already worn in – they just feel and look better with a bit of age and character.
If you could raid one person’s wardrobe, who would it be?
Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. I love his rock ‘n’ roll, bohogypsy vibe. He’s clearly inspired by Janis Joplin and Mick Jagger, whose styles I also adore.

Ballet flats with black three-quarter leggings. It was a thing for a while, but I just can’t stand it – it doesn’t flatter me at all.
