Regular users of the Maitai Valley have noticed a section of bollards protecting the grass at Branford Park have been ripped right out of the ground.
One reader questioned what had caused the damage, as the concrete holding the bollards in had been ripped right out of the ground, and whether the damage would be getting fixed.
Well, we can tell you that the destruction was caused by a car. Police were called on the morning of Friday, 23 May when the damaged sedan was noticed still at the scene. The owner had crashed earlier that morning and a tow truck was organised to take the car away.
Amazingly, nobody was reported to be injured in the crash. Nelson City Council told us that new bollards had to be made in the workshop and should be installed this week. The damaged bollards were taken away on Friday.
