Schools in flood affected areas will not be open for the first day of Term 3 today.
Tapawera Area, Riwaka, and Brooklyn Schools are closed along with Tapawera Kindergarten.
Parklands School in Motueka is also closed after receiving advice from Te Whatu Ora.
The school runs on bore water and has, as yet, been unable to complete a full safety assessment, so has been advised to remain closed until they can do so.
However, Motueka High School, which is also on a bore system, will open today but is asking students to bring a drink bottle.
The school will continue to operate a hub for food and grocery items his week to distribute to those in need.

Road closures are in place for a reason. Please don’t take any unnecessary risks. The potential for slips, rock and tree falls remains, and drivers are urged to check road conditions before they travel as routes can close at short notice.
There was a good turnout for support yesterday at the Motueka Recreation Centre community drop in. As a result, this will remain open from today until Wednesday 10am-3pm.
The Ministry for Social Development, Public Health, Te Piki Oranga, Ministry for Primary Industries, Nelson Bays Primary Health and Nelson Tasman Pasifika Community Trust will be there to have a chat about your specific welfare needs.
There will be a water tanker at the Motueka Recreation Centre 8-12pm Monday, and Dovedale Hall at 9am, BYO vessels.
Permanent boil water notices remain in place for Dovedale, Redwood Valley and 88 Valley. A conserve water notice is also in place for Dovedale. A temporary boil water notice is in place for residents of Tapawera. This is due to be reviewed today but will likely remain in place for longer.
All households on a private water bore have been advised to boil their water as a precaution. Treat all water and rivers as if they are still contaminated – they may include wastewater overflows or other contaminants.
Response assessment teams visited 417 properties in flood affected areas yesterday and will continue today where we will be aiming to visit a further 413 properties. The focus will be on the south of Tapawera, Rocky River, Dovedale, Baton River, Pretty Valley, Trass Valley and Hoult Valley areas.
Around 80 properties are still without power. Field crews remain working to restore power and will resume repairs at daylight. Most of the remaining outages are in the Thorpe – Dovedale area. Teams will be able to restore electricity supply to some customers in this area today by making modifications to parts of the network, but flooding has made access to damaged poles on private land difficult.
They are having to make temporary roads and waterway crossings to gain access before they can begin repairs which means some customers at the end of the line will be off for longer.
