Remote workers in Nelson looking for connection and community are invited to join the Work From Home Meetup Group, which has been running weekly for the past 18 months.
Organised by Cassandra Greenfield through the Nelson Working from Home Meetup Group on Facebook, the meet-ups offer a casual space to connect with others who work from home, chat, and build friendships.
“I was working from home, not getting out and seeing people very often,” says Cassandra. “The idea to connect with others who work from home was a way to change that.”
The meet-ups began with Cassandra making a single post in the Newbies to Nelson Facebook group, which quickly attracted around 100 responses.
Among those who reached out was Lachlan McNeill, who offered to help co-run the meet-ups — a gesture that Cassandra says has made a significant difference.
From there, regular meet-ups quickly evolved. There are two weekly sessions on Tuesdays at 10.30 am at Buenavista Cafe (inside Godzilla’s Vintage on Bridge St) and on Thursdays at 10 am, co-hosted by Phil Wing, at Pics Cafe in Stoke.
Newcomers are welcome to just show up—there’s always someone to greet first-timers. The meet-ups run year-round.
“It’s a really nice way to meet new people and just chat, many friendships have been made through it,” Cassandra says.
