Drivers can expect delays travelling out of Nelson as work begins to remove dangerous trees from Spooners Hill.
A large amount of trees came down across the region during a wind and rain event earlier in July. Post-flood repairs continue at multiple sites across the region.
Contractors will be begin removing dangerous trees, at risk of falling onto State Highway 6 at Spooners Hill from tomorrow, Wednesday, 23 July.
They will be working weekdays, between 7:30am and 4:30pm over the next week. There will be no work on the weekend.
Because usual local road detours cannot be used because of weather damage, State Highway 6 will remain open to traffic but be subject to stop/stop traffic management to allow fallen trees to be removed safely.
Drivers can expect traffic queues and delays of up to 15 minutes on this route while this work is ongoing.
Debris will also be cleared from the Motueka River Bridge, as soon as water levels allow. Work is expected to start today, when it is safe for diggers to operate in the riverbed.
Because this work will be done from the riverbed and channel, traffic will not be affected.
