The croupiers have been recruited, the dealers have been drafted, and the decks are all checked.
No bluff – this Saturday’s Casino Night fundraiser promises to be an ace event.
Abby McCall is coordinating the Motueka South School fundraiser, which this year features a “James Bond” theme.
She points out that there aren’t many opportunities to “dress up fancy” for an evening event in Motueka.
“That’s what sets this fundraiser apart from other schools – it’s one for the adults!”
The event debuted last year and was a raging success for the school. This year’s format will be similar – the $60 ticket includes an initial stash of gambling chips and a buffet meal prepared by The Smoking Barrel’s Josiah Smits.
There will also be spot prizes and a host of auctions to bid on. Abby says that one Hanmer Springs auction pack is worth more than $1000.
“The roulette, blackjack, and crown and anchor tables have been cleaned off and the epic lucky wheel oiled,” she says.
“The energy that was generated from the crowd last year was so memorable. People were mingling, joining in at the gaming tables, and generally having a ball.”

The Motueka South School Casino Night is this Saturday, 26 July. Doors open at 6pm with a games briefing at 6.30pm.
