Aliens, rocket ships and planets – and a surprising number of jellyfish – touched down at St Paul’s Catholic School last week for its annual book fair.
This year’s theme, To the Book Fair and Beyond, explained the extraterrestrials and astronauts that scouted out the school during the parade, which also included all the favourite book characters.
Cathie Dodd has been organising the book fair at the school for the past decade and she says it just keeps getting better and better. This year she was expecting the school to sell about $6,000 worth of Scholastic books through the week-long book fair, with commission from those sales used to stock up the library’s shelves with new books.
“We’re appreciative of parents buying books because we know how tricky it is in these times. But they see the importance of books.”
Among this year’s favourite books being purchased were the Dog Man and Dragon Girls’ series and Cathie says football books have also been popular for boys and girls.
“The book fair is all about the love of reading – and it’s fun.”
