Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park’s I Dig Sunday events have returned, marking the start of a major clean-up after recent flooding caused extensive damage across the park’s trail network.
Greg Southcombe, Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park committee chairperson, says popular tracks like Karmakaze and Jaws were among the hardest hit, suffering from fallen trees, slips, and heavy debris.
“It’s a daunting job ahead, but the community support has been amazing,” he says.
Volunteers have already begun the recovery, with specialist help from locals like arborist Ben Roborgh who have donated their time, equipment, and expertise.
“Having large pine trees cleared has allowed us, and other volunteers with shovels and picks, to safely begin the clean-up,” Greg adds.
I Dig Sunday runs through the cooler months while the soil is soft but had been on hold while damage assessments and planning took place.
Established in 2007, the park offers over 70km of trails across 170 hectares and attracts thousands of riders each year.
