It took a tie breaker to decide first and second, and third and fourth in this year’s Great Tasman Primary School Quiz. Motueka Steiner’s Ben Bauer and Kohaku Bier edged out Samuel Perriam and Abel Madigan of Motueka South for first and second.
Third was Māpua School’s Harrison Van Lent and Beau Lloyd with Brooklyn’s Jimmy Sonneland-Drummond and Mathew Cederman fourth.
These podium finishers received cash prizes and books. All students received certificates of participation and cash prizes funded by Motueka Rotary. Non-podium students also had the chance of a spot prize.
Twelve of Tasman’s 15 Primary Schools battled it out at Motueka RSA on Wednesday evening 13 August. This was a great turn out considering the turmoil of the floods over recent weeks and our thanks go to the principals and teachers for getting their two student teams to the quiz.
This is the fourth year Motueka Rotary has run the quiz, which is now becoming a feature of the primary school calendar. This year the questions were divided into eight sections of five featuring Geography, NZ History, Movies, Science, People and Places, Animals, Who said what and Sports and games. This division into sections received enthusiastic support from both students and supporters.
Quiz convener and Motueka Rotary’s Youth Director, Brian Bell, said that Rotary’s objective was to give the students and their supporters a fun night out while testing their general knowledge. Supporters were also invited to informally undertake the quiz with the incentive of both podium and spot prizes.
Motueka Rotary thanks Image Creators who provided the printing of certificates and school labels with The Warehouse in providing books. We thank Motueka RSA for use of their venue which proved to be a great hit providing a warm and inviting setting.
Most importantly, we thank the students who participated. In addition to the podium finishers the teams were: Dovedale - Tilly Rodwell and Isis Charles; Lower Moutere - Riley Godsiff and Callum Soper; Mahana - Lucia Green and Carys Sugar; Ngatimoti - Manu Castelli and Flint Selligman; Parklands - Nikko Thomas and Harry Marshall; Riwaka - Oscar Wilson and Moreno Remy Hawkridge; Tapawera - Oli Snackers and Harry Butcher; and Tasman Bay Christian School - Sophie Crockett and Ryder Cook.
