A house is on fire in Richmond with fire crews currently working to extinguish the blaze.
Fire and Emergency shift supervisor Alex Norris says they were called by multiple people at 1.45pm.
Initially they responded two crews from Richmond, who found the house "well involved", so a further three crews were sent - two from Stoke and one from Nelson.
"Our crews are on scene and just getting to work to extinguish the fire," Alex says.
Coleman St resident, Jenna Kenyon, who lives two doors down, says she heard a faint fire alarm ringing before smelling smoke through her kitchen window.
"So I shut my kitchen window and we came out, and it was a big balloon of dark-coloured smoke.”
She said the fire was “terrifying” and she had been concerned about it spreading to nearby homes.
“I was shaking when I came out.”
Her partner Leo Walterfang says the fire appeared to consume the entire house just a minute after leaving the bedroom.
“It’s scary how fast it moves, but you also don’t see it that often, so it’s quite fascinating. The heat started radiating all the way across [the street]. There was bits flying everywhere.”
A St John spokesperson says two patients were assessed and treated at the scene, with neither requiring transport to hospital.
