A group of women in Golden Bay have raised an impressive $8,000 to help Gaza’s growing crisis—And they’re not stopping there — they invite you to join their event this Saturday and be part of the effort.
In response to the Gaza humanitarian crisis, where starvation, illness, and suffering are worsening daily, the group is channelling creativity and community spirit to raise funds for verified Gaza charities.
Just a few weeks ago, they brought the community together for a fundraising event featuring a cake stall and raffles — raising an impressive $8,000.
“We felt so helpless and wanted to do something,” says Kylie Jones, one of the women behind the initiative.
To rally further support, Golden Bay heART for Gaza has been launched— online art auction featuring local artists, with all proceeds going directly to those on the ground in Gaza.
Among the standout art contributions is ‘Humanity’, an award-winning textile piece by local artist and teacher Ute Schroder, created in memory of six-year-old Hind Rajab — a child whose tragic story— shared alongside the piece — lays bare the brutal reality faced by children in Gaza. The artwork is now being auctioned on Trade Me.
“It’s bizarre that people can scroll past images from Gaza and just carry on,” says Kylie. She points out that collective action helped bring change to apartheid South Africa — and believes the same is possible now. “People just need to start doing something — and the government needs to step up too.”
