Judy Everett’s grandkids have been channelling their creativity into sand saucers this week in preparation for Brightwater’s Spring Flower Show this Saturday.
They have a good teacher as Judy has been creating floral arrangements for 30 years, using the assortment of flowers from her garden and the mossy or lichen-covered branches collected from nature.
“It’s nice being able to give somebody else flowers and have them around home. And I love teaching the grandkids.”
She’s president of the Waimea Floral Art Group which has doubled its membership in the past year and many of its members will have floral designs in the spring show.
The Brightwater Horticulture Society has been holding flower shows since 1904, with some of the best blooms on display, alongside a floral art section and then the children’s sand saucers, vegetable animals and drawings.
The show opens at 9am on Saturday in the Brightwater Hall.
