After a six-year break, Tapawera’s much-loved Spring Show is back on 11 October — and it’s shaping up to be a vibrant celebration of everything that makes rural community life so special.
Tapawera Spring Show promises a fun-filled day for all ages, with a showcase of pets and farm animals, hall exhibits like baking and art, plus food stalls, a car show, markets, and more.
The revival of the Spring Show has been spearheaded by a dedicated small group of local volunteers, including Tapawera Area School teacher Sabine Reinert and Pam Irvine, a passionate Tapawera local and mother of children at Tapawera Area School. Pam says it’s about more than just fun — it’s about connection.
“The kids get quite excited about entering and being part of the spring show,” Pam shares.
“We’ve taken part in the Nelson A&P Shows since our local one stopped, which has been fun, but the kids always want to bring their pet lambs to school and show them to everyone — so we thought, why not just have a spring show again.”
The event doubles as a school fundraiser for Tapawera Area School and aims to bring together a wide range of community groups — from young students and families to local businesses and hobbyists.
“It’s kind of like a mini A&P Show with classic hall entries such as baking, horticulture, photography, handcrafts and art,” says Pam. “We’re starting small and seeing how it goes — and if it’s a success, we’ll build on what we learn this year for next year’s show.”
In rural communities like Tapawera, events like the Spring Show do more than entertain — they bring people together, offer children creative opportunities and strengthen community spirit.
