It’s a long way from the world of international banking to the peace and quiet of sunny Blenheim, but for executive Jodie Schorn, it’s been a journey of purpose and discovery.
Now Chief Operating Officer at Heritage Lifecare, Jodie brings deep experience in building high-performing teams. "I've always loved being around people," she says. "And I love leading in a way that brings people together. Aged care felt like a natural fit for the next chapter in my career, and I’ve never looked back. I absolutely enjoy every bit of it."
Since moving to New Zealand from South Africa in 2018, Jodie’s work has focused on building connection, not just among teams, but across whole communities.
"I wanted to be part of an organisation that puts people first," she explains. "I was drawn to Heritage by the culture and the people. We’re connected to towns across the country in a really genuine way."
That includes Stillwater Lifecare & Village in Richmond, which offers both aged residential care and independent living options. "Stillwater isn’t some big facility on the edge of town," Jodie says. "It’s tucked into the neighbourhood. People pop in to visit family, walk the dog past the gardens, or chat with someone over the fence. It feels like part of the community because it is."
That sense of belonging is central to Jodie’s leadership style. She believes great care comes from great teams, and that high performance starts with shared purpose.. "Most people want to do good. My role is to walk alongside them, make space for that, and help remove the roadblocks."
Her vision is to keep growing Heritage Lifecare in a way that reflects the values of each local community. That includes sharing specialist knowledge, especially around dementia, and supporting families with practical tools and trusted guidance.
"I’ve found the culture here in Aotearoa to be humble and human. People care deeply about their families and neighbours. That’s what makes it easy to connect, and why I’m so excited about what we can do next, together."
