Wind and rain are beginning to lash the region as severe weather works its way towards the North Island.
A Strong Wind Watch remains in place for Nelson Tasman until 5pm Thursday evening.
A resident currently driving along the Motueka Valley Highway says debris are littering the road and winds are extreme.
Fire crews across Tasman have already been called to multiple events.
SH6 is closed between Kawatiri and near the Coal Creek Bridge, south of the Owen River, due to a deteriorating underslip.
The underslip, which is to undergo repairs, has suffered river scouring following recent bad weather, which has seen further damage develop on the highway.
SH7 also remains closed after flooding eroded the road.
Local councils are advising extra caution in local parks and reserves on Thursday due to the risk of falling branches and unstable trees.
Networks Tasman are warning further outages may occur to the power network after the entire top of the South Island was without power earlier today.
