The aisles of Māpua Four Square are set for another high-speed spectacle as the Great Māpua Grocery Grab returns for its third year.
Friends of Māpua School (FoMs) organises the event and the lucky winner gets to go on a $1,000 shopping spree, with just 60 seconds to fill their trolley with as many groceries as possible.
FoMs member, Belinda Ellis, says Māpua School students are “furiously” selling tickets throughout the neighbourhood, with the draw taking place at the school on 7 December, in time for a Christmas grocery shop.
Last year the event raised $17,000 and she says the goal this year is $25,000 to help fund the construction of new playing courts that can be used by the school and the wider community.
“We had a video of the first grocery grab and it’s pretty chaotic! A grandmother from school won it and she had her three grandchildren running around for her. It was a lot of fun.”
Māpua Four Square donates the main prize of $1,000 for the high-speed grocery grab. Tickets are available until 5 December, and entries can also be made via the Great Māpua Grocery Grab Facebook page.
