There were ribbon cuttings, countdown celebrations and special promotions at the Richmond Mall last week, as tens of thousands of customers visited the new stores opening in the mall’s first stage of its Richmond Mall Reimagined project.
Richmond Mall Reimagined is a multi-stage project and the latest transformation of the mall, due for completion at the end of 2026.
A lineup of 12 mall favourites and new brands have been announced so far for Stage 1. Stores that have relocated and are trading from their brand-new stores are Whitcoulls, Acquisition, Mobile Fun and Health 2000.
Others that are also now open are Unichem, Pop Stop, The Body Shop, and Backdoor. Look’s Men’s Salon, Skechers, OPSM and Ugg Express are finalising their fit-outs in time for Black Friday weekend at the end of this month. Other brands joining the mall are still to be announced.
Richmond Mall manager Belinda de Clercq says it is a significant milestone.
“The reconfiguration and reconstruction of the south-eastern area of the mall started earlier this year and we are really pleased that the hoardings are now down, doors are opening and customers are pouring in. Eight stores are already open with the rest opening over the next few weeks as they finish their fit-outs,” she says.
“It was wonderful to see so many people in the mall last week. The whole place was buzzing. It was fantastic.
“And to celebrate this Stage 1 milestone, we’re running a Shop & Win promotion throughout November and into December. Each week, one lucky shopper will take home a $500 Pak’n Save gift card. They just need to make a purchase over $50 at Pak’n Save and then on the same day make a purchase anywhere else in the mall and enter their receipts for a chance to win.
“We thank everyone for their patience while we work through the project’s stages to ultimately provide people with what they have asked for - a wider range of stores, national brands not currently in the region and more exciting customer experiences.”
Meanwhile, Stage 2 of the redevelopment has started with the western entrance now permanently closed, and the eastern entrance also closing on 25 November.
The food court area will be behind hoardings, and there is no internal access through the mall to Pak’n Save while works start in the old food court area.
Signage is up to help people find their way around, and the bright blue line helps guide people between Pak’n Save and the new Stage 1 entrance.
